Full bio

Anna Lidell works from a place where right and wrong don't exist. That energy shapes everything she writes.

Based in Copenhagen, Lidell started violin at four and has since picked up enough instruments to compose credibly across genres. Her discography runs past 20 releases, and her screen credits include Netflix's SKAM Italia, along with award-winning films, video games, podcasts and radio. Her latest score, written with Italian composer Cristina Carlini as the duo ISTAP, carries the European arthouse thriller The Flower of Darkness.

As a performer she has toured with the transatlantic pop project Teenage Love, pairing playful production and classical strings with smart songwriting, and with marstal:lidell, a dreampop collaboration that reimagined Satie, Langgaard and Mahler in live concert formats across Europe with Philharmonics. That range, from pop hooks to classical deconstruction, is what she brings into scoring work: music that can be technically precise and emotionally direct at once.

Lidell is also a longtime advocate for composers' rights and sustainable artist income, with leadership roles in the Danish music organizations behind her and a direct-to-fan company, Sleeve, that she co-founded. It also means she understands clearance, splits and deadlines from both sides of the table, and she's easy to work with.

Press

(Theatre Music) Most remarkable is the theatre production's sound. Gone is Edvard Grieg's world-famous orchestral score, written for the original premiere and inseparable from Peer Gynt ever since. In its place, composers Anna Lidell and Jullie Hjetland deliver the electronic and acoustic score live from the stage. Its evocative power is no less than Grieg's, and the dreamlike, fairytale-like and unmistakably Nordic tone that must balance Ibsen's universalism is often struck so purely it could resemble a miracle.

Teenage Love brings a sense of fun that is unrivaled by any contemporary act.

Hilly Dilly

(marstal:lidell) All lovers of haunting but still catchy dreampop – this might be your new favourite band. Henrik Marstal and Anna Lidell from Copenhagen are marstal:lidell. Lead by Lidell's distinctive voice the song unfolds a sensual sweetness somewhere in the musical field of BAT FOR LASHES and COCTEAU TWINS.

(Teenage Love) "Sweaterface" begins a timid then suddenly goes right into a bombardment of synthy tribal futuristic tinge. With polyrhythmic percussions, light-hearted vocals and exuberant horn blasts, Teenage Love create an anthemic electro-pop track that's playful, eccentric and we just can't get enough of it.

(Teenage Love) from witty and bold to soulful and deep... dynamic, fun, and original
